Laurel Babcock
FOUNDER AND OWNER
Laurel began gardening alongside her mother at a young age, developing a deep appreciation for plants that eventually grew into a career rooted in ecology and design. After founding Laurel’s Garden Design in 2019, her work naturally evolved toward native plant landscaping, with a focus on creating gardens that are both beautiful and ecologically functional. As her expertise deepened, Laurel went on to start her own native plant nursery, where she grows regionally appropriate species using organic, chemical-free, and ecologically responsible practices that prioritize long-term resilience and environmental health.
She brings extensive knowledge of native plant identification, site-appropriate plant selection, and naturalistic design principles to every project, ensuring each landscape is thoughtfully tailored to its environment.
She graduated from Durham County’s prestigious Gardener Volunteer Program in 2015 and remains an active member today. Laurel is certified in Rain Garden Installation and Streambank Repair through NC Cooperative Extension and NC State University.

Sami Allen
LANDSCAPE DESIGNER
Growing up in Maryland near the Chesapeake Bay, Sami has special memories of playing in the woods and creeks collecting oyster and mussel shells. All of this time in nature instilled in her an appreciation for our natural assets and habitat for birds, insects, and wildlife. These early experiences led her to earn a Master's degree in Landscape Architecture from NC State University. Sami values balancing habitat and ecological regeneration with human needs while at the same time, finding solutions to challenges in the landscape. She brings a trained eye to design and an appreciation for the uniqueness of each project and relationship built with a client. Also in 2024, she completed Durham County's Extension Master Naturalist program with a focus on native and invasive species identification on the Eno River Association's Blue Indigo Preserve.
